Purple coneflowers were formerly grouped with Rudbeckias. They are self supporting sunlovers with handsome daisy flowers on stout stems and seem able to tolerate a wide range of soil types. They grow to about 90cm tall. Attractive to butterflies and bees. Best planted in spring. There are a lot of brightly coloured new cultivars out there with Echinacea paradoxica (yellow species) parentage but we have yet to find any that are reliably perennial and perform well under UK garden conditions. If you find any please let us know. These do well with us.
