Almost everyone will be familiar with the naturalised montbretia which grows in damp ditches in western coastal areas. Montbretias are excellent for midsummer colour in reds, oranges and yellows. The demands of the cultivated forms increase with the size and showiness of the flowers and the bigger flowers may not prove completely hardy in colder regions. Establish in spring and plant deep with plenty of humus. Moisture at foot improves performance but tolerate sun or part shade. Tussocks of leaves provide good shape. Namings are confused and we endeavour to sell the true plants.
